Rear trike axle for EVO Harley Sportser or BMW Boxer

Post by Deep Diver »

Hi folks. I am new to trikes but not bikes so am looking to convert one of me bikes. I have a 1993 Harley sportster and a 1985 BMW R80RT Mono shock. Has any one a complete rear axle or know of one for either bike.
Thanks for any replies.

Thanks for the reply Mick. I am hoping ? that there may be a s/hand one out there first. Or just sell the bikes and look for a ready built up one.

tbh, it depends on your needs, budget and skill level. RSC and Casarva do kits, both IRS and pretty good. start off around £2.5k, cheaper the more fab work you can do. Regards Ian.

Thanks for the reply Ian. Skills!!! . Trained as a tool maker and ended up over 36 years working on large forklifts up to 52 ton. Plus hydraulic engineer and steel fabricator, and coded welder to BS pressure vessel's up to 125mm plate But now semi retired and do not have access to work shop any more. I am thinking of the Casarva kit if I can not get a s/hand axle. We do a lot of touring and require comfort as swmbo and I both have bad backs.

skill level, gold standard (-;

I like both kits, my personal preference is the Carsarva kit, (I've ridden a RSC sporty and that handles well, though IMHO needs an anti roll bar) If you're happy carrying out some fab work, the basic kit is ok, both manufacturers offer turnkey options, but that is a £6-8k option.

I'm part way through making my own, its a lengthy process. (-:

I like the IRS rear rather than the solid beam axle on suspension units or hard tail, especially with the crappy road surfaces hereabouts.

This is the RSC IRS kit on my mates trike. I fitted LED lights and fitted modified racks on the mudguards. The mudguard stays are strengthened under the racks, still only fit for waterproofs, though. (-:
