Newbie

Post by Flim »

Hi all. I live just West of Glasgow and have recently retired from a varied career in Engineering.
As a project, I have acquired a 2001 Honda ST1100 and Reliant 850cc Type A axle. Over the past couple of months I have researched forums to gain an insight on Trike Building.
The plan is to retain the entire swing arm allowing the ST to be complete again, if desired.
However, I already have a few questions and decided to join this site for its depth of knowledge etc etc.
1. How do I determine the bike centreline so that the diff is in line? Swingarm is off bike already.
2. How much angle can the UJs take and still operate smoothly? My guesstimate came out at 15 to 20degrees.
3. Is it safe, feasible to move the axle position back a few CMs to reduce the UJ offset angle?
4. Further down the line what issues am I likely to encounter with the bikes ABS/CBS regarding drum brake performance? Can they be switched off after rear master cylinder and pressure limiter upgrade?
Thanks in advance for any guidance. More questions are inevitable!
FLIM.

Welcome in.

You might want to send bosscat a message, as he did a ST1100 conversion.

Also, there are quite a few threads around ST110 builds if you just search for ST1100.

Hi and welcome - if you don't want to measure to find the centreline the why not just re-fit the swinging arm and wheel to see where it is?

Welcome to the hospital for sick trikers.
The nurse will see you to a empty padded cell as soon as we wash down the walls. She'll bring the meds later but keep away from the green pills, and don't drool out of the windows as it upsets the locals..
