Outrageous price!

Post by firebob22 »

Hi all, just a quick bit of info that might come in handy. I was looking to replace the studs that hold the two halves of a Reliant diff together, these being 5/16 UNF & UNC. Good ol' fleabay sources were quoting around £4.50 each & as there are 8 of 'em would work out at a ridiculous price, so after hunting around found a place called Burton Power that does competition stuff for Ford cars. These exact same studs are used on some Ford manifolds & they are charging 87p each, bit of a ferkin' difference! Just thought i'd pass that on. Cheers, Bob. :soap:

Is the amount of unthreaded portion going to work?

Same thread size used on HD exhaust port but with smaller unthreaded part - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172385893091

Yep, the new studs are exactly the same as the Reliant originals. Could've used UNC bolts but i like to put dome nuts on the exposed part of the thread once the nuts are on just to keep things tidy. Cheers all. Bob.

stainless threaded bar from ebay cut it to size, then you can put dome nuts on.

Studs have a design for a reason and studs are used for a reason. As the studs are available I think it preferable to keep the design as intended and not half arse it with bolts or odd bits of threaded rod, IMHO.

Original studs have two different thread pitches, that is the only reason to keep them! A piece of all thread will equally serve the same purpose with just a nut change required! I don't like bolts for ex. manifolds - to easy to cross thread imo!
