Any ideas?
Hi all, got a problem. I had to remove the old graphics off of the side panels & tail piece on the XJ as they were all shagged. They all came off fine using a hot air gun but they all left a sticky, patchy residue which i can't shift. I've tried Acetone, petrol, bleach, hob cleaner, T-cut, soap crystals all to no avail. Don't know what else to try, over to you! Cheers, Bob.
Some mornings it's just not worth chewing through the restraints!

There is a wheel that is run in a drill designed to remove stickers and stuff without damaging the paint underneath. Okay toffee wheel or caramel wheel.

Thanks guys, WD40 didn't work nor did thinners. I'll pick up some carb cleaner & also that Sticky Stuff from Screwfix. I'll let you know what happens! Cheers, Bob.

Supprised WD40 didn't work? did you let it soak in well before attempting to remove. Although I suggested carb cleaner be careful & test it on a scrap piece of panel beforehand as I used it on a coloured distributor cap some years back & it near melted the whole thing.
The older i get the earlier it seems to get late.

Try to freeze it with ice cubes, that's how they get off chewing gum

Well, tried the Zep sticky stuff remover, not a hope! Even tried spraying it on, covering it with clingfilm & leaving overnight, absolutely no difference. Tried the same trick with WD40 & carb cleaner, nothing's worked. The old graphics were on there since 1996 & are about 18 inches long so there's quite a lot of old residue to get off. I think i'll have to mask off the whole area, wet & dry the old glue & then respray it. I tried this on a small area & being careful not to hit the surrounding paintwork, it did come off. What a faff! Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Bob

Glue and Tar remover from bodyshop suppliers. wear gloves, bad on skin.
