Fan belt Too long!?

Post by adrianbt »

Have just replaced the generator "upstand" with a nice new shiny one etc and now the fan belt seems too long!?

Have taken all the shims out from between the pulley faces and it makes no difference.

Have measured the fan belt and there doesn't seem to be any appreciative increase in length to it.
It appears to be a bog standard 9.5x905 belt.

Have measured the height of the old stand and the new one and they both seem the same within a mm.

Went down to BandB Components and they measured my belt against a new one and they are both the same

Am I going to have to do a "bodge it and scarper" job and shim up the generator to increase the distance?

It's a Type 1 Vdub 1300.

Any other ideas........ please!

Cheers
Adrian

sorry the pics have rotated.... no idea why.....

just set your altinator so you have loads of adjustment left in it then measure with a piece of string then buy one at that lenth

Seems logical? If the pulleys are the same and the belts are the same then by process of elimination its the new doodah that's wrong?

I've got a generator cover coming to take up a couple of more mil, not planned to do that but it'll take up a bit of space, and then I'll put 4 or 5 spacers in , cut the old belt and then pull as tight as and see what the overlap is.

Have had a look a the dunlop range of AVX10 belts and they all seem to go up in varying lengths and hope that I can get the nearest. They've got 876, 882 and 888mm being the nearest.

I'll post what I end up doing, it might help someone else later on.
