Re: First Step
Banished outside today.
I cut up all the pieces which I tacked together before, and laid them out on the old kitchen top again. I wanted the front radius's to be angled at 70*, so I cut another bit of wood for the front.
I screwed some more bits around the end to give me a solid backing for fitting the headstock.
Tacked some cross bracing in.
Cut and tacked a shorter one.
I was going to weld one bent tube to the brace, and have two bits either side, so that only an upper and lower tube connected to the headstock, but I might use two, as in a normal frame.

First Step
Coming on nicely!
I presume you fitted a nice new Worktop for your Missus, or is she now struggling with an old Door resting on a couple of Chair backs?

Doc.
I did build a couple of units, and those were the left overs. Nice and solid.

Back to raining again today. I hope that's not the end of the building season.

Re: First Step
I managed a few more hours, which were mostly spent grinding and fitting one side to the headstock. I was hoping to get both top rails done, but the fitting took ages.
While it was dry I laid some bends around the engine, to see what the cage would look like.

Re: First Step
Dry again today, so I got some more done.
Cut and positioned a second 1 inch dia round bar slug at 70 degrees to locate the second top rail.
After a lot of farting about, I tacked on the right hand top rail and bottom rail.
Frame so far.

Re: First Step
I finished tacking the front end, and put it in front of the car.
I then laid the forks against it, and while it was there, looked at the trail again. When I made the forks years ago, the frame had a different rake. This one is 40 degrees, and gives me a negative trail of nearly 12 inches.
After much head scratching, I chopped up the swing arm on the forks, and added and extra six inches of tube. Have to finish the left hand side.
I bought some more tube this week, and started on the subframe to hold the engine and suspension.
All tacked up.
