First Step

Post by Molehusband »

Hi All.

My name is Doug Smith and I am a a Buildaholic.

I promised my wife that I had given up projects which I never finished a while back, but have secretly been stashing parts in the shed. I tried going cold turkey, but it did not work.

I had to admit my indiscretion to her today as I brought home an engine and could not get it into the house without help. It nearly killed me getting it out of the car boot, and now its sitting in the back room because I can't get it down the steps to the back garden.

To my surprise it went pretty well as I have been looking at trikes on the net again for months, so it was not such a big shock. Although she did ask how I was going to get it out of the garden when it was finished.

I'll work that out when I get to it, I said.

I have decided on a sort of hotrod look with vintage wire wheels, solid axle and Reliant gearbox or similar, behind a Ford 1100 crossflow lump.

I will start a build thread as soon as I get going, if I still live at home, that is.

Now it makes sense why you were looking at space saver wheels.

We love new builds.

Thanks All

I have have been farting about for months trying to decide what to do.

First it was going to be a Reliant engine in front of two vw trans, but My mate had this Ford engine in his garage, which has been re built and is only a bit bigger than the piggy lump. I had cross flows when I first started driving, and it rings a few bells with me.

As I said above, I want to go for a sort of Hotrod look, and keep it all ford as well. I have a couple of fire extinguishers which I want to put on the back for a petrol tank as the usual one will be a dummy with the air filter in.

I was going to get a 16 inch space saver for the front, but now I have two 17inch Ford model Y wheels, I will probably look for a Ural/Dnepr wheel with Pie crust hub to match the back. Only problem is the engine is bloody heavy.
Dunno how all those Escorts went so fast.

Attached is a quick drawing of how it should look.

I have hit a dilemma already.

I picked up one of the spoked wheels, but he had two Ford pop wheels there as well. I like the spokers, but it would be a lot easier to use the steel rims, with a disc bolted in. If I did have the wires I would have to buy some adaptors for whichever axle I bought.

Bugger.

the wire wheels look cool Doug. but I think a full refurb would be required before they're ok to use on a trike. :respek:
