I have never had a build thread, but as many of you who know me, know that I got Max as a bit of a basket case.
He is now on his 3rd engine and no longer runs on LPG.
The second engine is a 4l with a highlift cam, but it kept blowing water out of number 3. I think this was due to heat, so now I can set the temp I am gonna try running it again, but keep it below 90DegC. Oh, and I should be getting an engine stand fro Christmas. (I already have a hoist).
Last year he blew the brake servor, and after chatting with Ghoulie, I also opted for a Jag XK8 servo.
With this came a new issue.......

Re: Midnight Max - The ongoing rebuild
Using the XK8 servo suddenly make braking a more savage event.
I fitted a bias valve, and even with all it adjusted to the least pressure going to the front, I was still locking up the front wheel.
A somewhat sphincter clenching exercise when emergency braking in anything other than a perfect straight line.
I had always known that the rear discs were a bit pitted, so I decided they needed changing.
Having had a good look, and a chat with Jinj, the only solution is to drop the shafts, split the calipers and then you can get the disks out.
Yeah, sounds easy doesn't?
I did a dry run on the right side, as I could get to then, but can not get to the rear bottom bolt holding the caliper together.
It looks like moire drastic action was required......

Re: Midnight Max - The ongoing rebuild
So, the great dismantle started, with the removal of the radiator, tank and seats.
I then saw that the left disc was covered in what I assume is brake fluid. The fluid level has gone down, and it does look like clean brake fluid. Just doesn't really feel/taste like brake fluid.
I can only gues the new server has blown the ancient seals.
*uckuty *uck sticks, it looks like I will have to do the calipers come what ever. I may have to hide the plasma cutter
Sod's law, the disc is pretty smooth :(
So, this is where I am today:

Just a couple of observations from the above posts:
1) don't talk to people off here. They only give you problems.
2) don't lick your brake discs, it aint healthy. Windows is a lot healthier.

He's not talking to people on here. Were talking to him. And window licking is best done when drunk.miniondave wrote:Just a couple of observations from the above posts:

Yep, gonna rebuild the pots (£63), plus new discs and pads (£130).jinjachin wrote:Been there done that it's a right pain are you putting new pistons in as well .also check how much new discs cost of they ain't to dear change them you will never have to have it apart again hopefully
Most likely going to do the shocks too (£320)
Also need to change the diff oil. Can't get the sump plug off, but I do have a pump so will just suck it out.
I may be sending you frustrated PMs

Well done Sean, I know how long you have been wanting to do this.
