Since I picked up Herman from Mal I have had a small engine oil leak, well now I have started to sort out some repairs to do over the winter ( now my new hip has settled down). So today I stripped off the rear frame tubes, exhaust system and unbolted the engine ready to remove for the work on it.
On the engine I have to sort out the oil leak from around the cooler area and check the crank end float.
On the electrics I am going to fabricate a new wiring harness and fit a new fuse/relay box in a area you can get to with out removing the whole body.
And touch up some of the paint work on the gell coat which has cracked in a few places.
The rear frame tubes I am thinking of painting as well as the front side rails.
I will post pictures later in the week as I was to busy to take any today.

I may have found a local place to get the rear frame tubes made in stainless tube. So I will check on that in a few weeks time.

Hi Mal. If I can get the rear done at a good price I will look into the front frames.

Re: Hermans winter work.
Today my son and I lifted out the engine and stripped off the left side barrels and head to get to the oil leak area. The engine will be going away next week for weld repairs. Also I rang around for the stainless frame work and good news on that. I am taking the old frame to have new sections made up.
Some pics now of todays work.

I took the frame tubes to have new one's made up in stainless today and the engine to the welder. He checked and said it would be impossible to weld. So I am looking at another engine or new cases.

To weld it up he wants it fully stripped down and the cases cleaned. Then there is the issue of welding pure magnesium which is what the cases are made from. But time thats done it would be cheaper to get a new set of cases in aluminium which are easy to work with.
I do have another set of cases but they are the early ones with only 1 oil relief valve and they require line boring. I would rather have the later cases with the 2 oil relief valves like what I have got at the moment.
I am going to have another look at the area tomorrow and make up my mind then.
And yes I have seen the engine in Ipswich and sent PM to the seller, but he says it will not turn over? so that would require a rebuild.
