Seems a bit daunting Bob, but if you get the schematics from a Haynes manual and print it off, then every connection you make use a highlight pen to mark it off, it will be back running in no time. I am not sure with your engine wiring, but if any wires connect to a mag pick up or similar, use a twisted cable pair, stops rfi. Made wiring looms in the 80s if you get stuck shout out.

Cheers for that barney, i'm sure it'll come right in the end (he said hopefully!) with a bit of patience & extreme violence!
