how many times have trikers searched for a suitable donor car engine for a build without the 'technical hassle' of having to sort out specially made parts for parking brakes etc?
so i just thought maybe i would kick off with the SMARTCAR 600 turbo PULSE (early LHD version). Just 4 bolts hold the the subframe to the body.
The engine is a Mercedes inclined 3 cylinder. the gearbox is auto. the throttle is electronic (inside the throttle pedal assembly and is about 80mm square) but a normal throttle cable can be attached to it.
Parking brake is centrally mounted on the subframe (rear drums).
70 MPG, 69 BHP and max speed is 84 MPH (electronically restricted, but can be de-restricted.
I reckon a smart car set up would be quite a good one to use, especially if you can make it linked in with a swing arm so you could get a donor bike with a blown engine, take the engine out and just bolt that onto the rear bit like the Carver One
Thats the reason i started with the Smart car, because i am in the process of building one using the Kawasaki triple backbone frame with no down tubes.
only just seen the 'triketec' smartcar trike, mine carries no bodywork at all (i would buy a sports car if i needed that) and uses a kawasaki triple backbone frame and twin disc forks, with kawasaki 440 seat. strictly 2 seater.
way back in the 70's i had a wee trike based on a fiat 500. it would be sacriledge to use one of them now. i reckon most rear engined cars (what are they i hear you say) would be suitable for triking. i have been trying to remember what front wheel drive car had the handbrake on the front wheels (possibly citroen).
Help Me i'm being held hostage. bring reinforcements.
