Scam watch

Post by yammy1300 »

I thought I would start this thread with a view to add ebay and other scams as a point of reference for everyone. If you spot a scam, please post here and remember to report the scam to ebay or the site in question.

OK, Ill try and explain and give an example:

A listing by somebody with zero feedback should alert you to have a close look at the listing in detail.
It may say things like "contact me on this phone number as I don't have access to my ebay account at work" or wording to that effect.
You contact the person and told you can "buy" the item cheaper without going through ebay as this saves the seller ebay fees....You agree to send a payment either as a deposit or worse still the asking price....too late he/she has got you!
thats it in simple terms, variations on this exist.
In simple terms, if something is advertised for what seems like a real bargain, BUYER BEWARE.....ask questions through ebay messaging system, don't part with any money without seeing the Trike?item first. One of my personal safeguard is to visit ebay almost every day to check new listings, when the same Trike/item keeps appearing from different sellers, that is my main "redflag" !

This one is an example of what to watch out for, here no phone number is given but 2 things stand out 1) zero feedback 2) far to cheap. There is also a 3rd and that is the item location. Recently most of the scams seem to be originating from far flung places up in Scotland making it difficult to go and have a look.
If you where to send this seller a message through ebay you can almost guarantee that the reply will include a phone number for you to ring....thats when the scam will start!

Hope this helps!!

Usually they suggest that you do the deal outside EBAY and pay money via PAYPAL where he says it will stay until he delivers the trike.

Unfortunately as soon as it goes into his PayPal account he has it out and because you dealt with him outside EBAY you have no comeback.

The other common thread seems to be "Delivery anywhere in the UK" this should ring alarm bells as delivery is expensive and at the prices being asked would probably eat up any profit.

I know of at least one disabled guy (early Alzhiemers) who was so desperate to get a trike he fell for it and lost his hard earned savings of £7 grand.

Luckily a few of us have been looking for trikes ourselves and noticed this pattern of high value, trikes bikes and quads appearing and re appearing sometimes within days of an alleged sale in another part of the UK. What bugs me is that this appears to be a recurrent organised attempt at fraud and yet EBAY still lists them and no criminal action is taken.

SCAM....
This nation wasn't given to our forefathers, it was wrought over a 1000 years of bloody war and the efforts of those who came before.
Let it not be us who bears the sin, of giving it away to the enemy within.

The BMW R1200C Grinnall Trike is back on the link is below. Same photos as previous, same mileage. The seller has no feedback, but this time he's looking for bids, and not a buy it now. Be careful out there. Here's the link.
