pan 1100 trike clutch.

Post by billybop »

hi all .
Got a problem with my new pan 1100 trike .
when the clutch is cold and you release it the bike lurches forward quite hard .
After that it is fine all day no drag at all until it is cold again .
1998 model 36000 miles non anti lock braking any ideas .

Change you clutch fluid and see if that helps. Then start to look at the master and slave cylinder for worn seals.
Check videos on youtube.

hi boys .
i changed oil soon as i got trike with shell advance .
owner before me said he put a new slave cylinda on.
lever feels normal after startup there is no drag all day .
In the morning if i put her in gear first, pull in the clutch lever it dosent open the clutch i cant push the trike lile the plates are stuck until i start the bike then it lurches forward then its right all day .
might try to tie the lever overnight to see if that makes a difference .
would that weaken the springs tho.thanks for the info boys .

Ah Ha ! - you've broken the cardinal rule of 'old bike' ownership - using fully synth oil ! The Pan is a relatively old engine design and the wet clutches just do not work - for whatever reason - with modern fully synth. oils, even bike specific ones! I'd drain it and throw some plain / ordinary mineral 10w40 in it and use it for a few weeks and its likely the plates will stop sticking, then you can stay with the mineral or use a semi synth. (that works for me - cheap car type semi - changed every 4-5k)

hi deep driver .
yes i believe it is dragging as you say not sure if it is a dry or wet clutch .
saw a video on ytube and no oil came out , but they do recomend soaking plates overnight when changing clutch.
Any body know any diffferent . thanks

If it recommends soaking plates then it's a wet clutch.I would recommend you do what Kawasuki suggested first.
The older i get the earlier it seems to get late.
