BMW K1200lt trike. Tyres size.

Post by BMWLT1200 »

Hiya all. New here.
I own a K1200lt trike 1999 T plate. It was already triked when I bought it. It had 15” rims and believe reliant rear axle. Now the trike has been stripped of its Tupperware and is in process of respray. The tyres were knackered and am wondering what is the best size tyres for me to get on 15” rims.
I was reading ‘Uglymick’ 2017 post regarding trike build considerations, with interest, but went over my head.
I don’t know which rear axle is on it but will try clean it up and photograph it to add to post.
Any help appreciated and thanks in advance

Ridden quite few times in 2018 when we got it. Revs sounded relative to speed, wasn't screaming at 70 probably 2.5 to 3k revs, to be honest can't remember.
Thanks

if you are happy with the way it revs while riding fit the same size tyres. width of the tire will not alter revs but a dia change will

I agree with jinj
there is a flat section on the back of your axel by the box section that looks like a tow bar it should be there
there is no drain plug for the oil only the filler plug so if u want to drain it a tube and syringe

As your this far with it take the axle off split it in half and count the no of teeth on the crown and pinion wheels to be sure. if there is no stamp its more than likely a 3.23
As Jinj said if your happy with it as is fit the same size. as long as it pulls away fine and you got some if you need it on top end

My old gl1000 ran at 70 @ 3500rev on 205/55/15 with a 3/23 axle my gl1500 runs at 70 @3600 revs on 205/55/15 with a 3/23 axle. changed it to 3.06 diff revs dropped down to about 3.400
