Good morning all,
So I'm the kind of guy that likes a project and a VW based trike has been on my list for a while. When an unfinished project came up on ebay (and my wife was in forgiving mood) I decided to take the plunge and get my new project underway. Previous projects to my name.....
Lotus 7 Clone
This one took ~500 man hours (I swear half of that was me looking for the tool I just put down) and was build from scratch using the original Colin Chapman chassis drawings and modified by me to suite running gear I was more familer with (Vauxhall).
Suzuki VS800 Chassic up rebuild
This was an ebay find where it had already been broken down and the frame powder coated so was more a rebuild/restore project than the Lotus
Monkey Trike
This one was just finished. My step-son is a dwarf but wants to ride so we found a Monkey/Pit bike that was road registered and in running order to base a small format trike from. We proceeded to do a bike to trike conversion.
A finally my current project.....
The starting point is a partly completed trike conversion of a 1971 VW. While I will be doing a lot of work on this to bring it from the current state to the a clean modern look (think late 90's boom trike) the base is sound.
For me the fun is in the challenge of the project more that the final article but for the first time this is a project I plan to keep and continue working on once complete and registered. I'm joining the community because it seems to be a nice group of like minded people and I may need to draw on the collective experiance that is offered, but hope I can help in return. I grew up around cars as my family owned a small garage and workshop so my mechanical skills are ok, but my speciality is electrics, electronics and computing (I'm an IT security specality). I have obviosuly build chassis, electrics and bodywork before but have not dealt with the VW air-cooled engines until now (this one is older than I am) but looking forward to the challenge.
Thanks

Welcome to the forums.
I think I am lucky that I have a lack of space, else I could see a series of projects.
Where abouts are you based?
