New old guy

Post by father chewy looey »

Hi folks
Old man here (70 in June 2023) I've been a biker since the tender age of 16, back when everything was in black n white, Never owned or even learned to drive a car, (maybe when I get old) I have owned 4 trikes over the centuries, but it's been 20 years since my last one.
So I bought a 1985 Honda Goldwing trike in November last year, obviously not used it due to the weather, it was sunny today so I took it for its second 'quick spin' since owning it,
It was a disaster, it seems to have developed the mother of all head shakes (never experienced this before with any of my previous trikes) it had a slight head shake the last time I tried it, but it was only at very low speeds and easy to deal with, This time it was un-ridable, I don't like it when my rides scare me, and this scared me, a few hundred yards was far enough for me to decide to take it home.
Hey ho, can't do anything about it for a while as the forecast is for snow and I don't have the luxury of a workshop, it's in the yard under a cover.
Still looking forward to some nice summer rides, one of my reasons for a trike was to be able to take my old dog with me he's 14 now but can't stand being left alone so I am looking forward to taking my lad with me. :smoke:

My old SR500 Yam was the same. Couldn't find a leak, even after tyres were changed, but I heard a story that some early cast wheels were actually porous and the air escaped that way.

Cheers, I figure it must be the front tyre pressure as the head shake had got noticeably worse compared to the last time I took it for a short spin several weeks ago (winter etc)
Turns out I no longer posses a pressure gauge, it must have joined all the other tools stolen by the tool pixies over the years, Amazon to the rescue and one on the way.
Do you or anyone else know the correct tyre pressure for a goldwing trike? it's a kit (no idea which) and an aspencade if that has any relevance.
Thanks

Welcome to the hospital for sick trikers.
The nurse will see you to a empty padded cell as soon as we wash down the walls. She'll bring the meds later but keep away from the green pills, and don't drool out of the windows as it upsets the locals..

The escape committee meets behind the big oak tree at 7pm

If it is a porous ally front wheel - take it or the trike to a wheel recon specialist. Had the same problem on a v8 jeep - all 4 wheels seemingly had slow punctures - turned out to be corroded ally being porous. Wheel specialists in Manchester sorted - corrosion removed, sealing coat - then heat sealing paint baked on - great job / finish
