Sorry Dave, it's a different system, had the ecu plugged into me laptop and tested all the bits and everything comes up as working fine and it's still blowing soot out of the exhausts.

Is it running rich, can you pull the injectors and see if any are weeping.

Does it have an egr valve Alex? If so try blanking it off.

Just had a thought.
Spray loads of soapy water around any air inlets. You could be getting excess air, hence more fuelling.
