sidecar front tyre... fact or bollox?

Post by levvin »

LO' !

took el-mongrel fer a blat up deserted farm road earlier, and it was such a battle to control steering my hands were numb and tingling for ages.

i've pulled up forks through top slab 3" to get trail down to around 3 1/2", was 5", and this has levelled bottom of frame parralell to road too. im using vmax 1200 front end on xs1100 frame, hardtail.

ive fitted a steering damper, kitty corner style diagonally behind forks.

even on the smooth tarmac road, i was constantly inputting to the steering, very uncomfortable, and needing to put lots of consious effort into controlling the bars.

is it worth dumping the AM21 front tyre, as its got slow puncture anyway, and getting a 19" sidecar tyre?

will this make a significant improvement, or is it just hype?

also, my bars are only 27" accross, Zoe's bars are 36" accross on her virago,

should i get Stefan from weldspray engineering to fit spigots and add stainless extensions to my bars?

would wider bars help smooth things out and make more controllable?

if todays experience is anything to go by, i wont be able to ride it cos my mitts were totally fubar within 20 mins!!
