I have a 4l in the back of the garage, but that needs pressure testing as No.3 keeps getting water in it.
I was offered a 4.2l some months back, but not sure if it still available.
I got my current lump off ebay for about £250.
The guy did add a vid of it running though, and offered to fire it up when I got there.

Just wondering what the symptoms are to make one side a little bit....off.
The 3.5 and 3.9 lumps are normally bomb proof. The bigger over bored stuff has always had a problem with keeping the water within the confines of the engine...liners, porous blocks etc etc.
Giss us a clue ???

Let it not be us who bears the sin, of giving it away to the enemy within.

Mmmm.... the heads not brilliant, but I've cleaned up and re-used worse ones.
The bore on the other hand IS more serious. If the piston and the liner have had it (though I'd try honing it first) new ones are available at reasonable prices...just a nause removing and re-fitting the new liner. There are no gaskets fitted to the base or necks of them, just a good smear of silicone sealant then leave for 24 hours after it's been pulled into position.

comment from Marc on the bore :-
The bore is so badly worn you can physically feel it drop with your fingers
Heads look to me to have been skimmed to limits by the looks of the packing under the rocket assembly
Bore worn elipsical
Don't fancy the job do you Rik? I want doing whatever it takes to make it run as it should

If the one single bore is that bad, chances are the rest will be in a sorry state as well.
The shims on/under the rocker shafts are there so you can "gap" the hydraulic tappets....pre load 'an all that kind of thing.
Love to help with the re-build, but what with Jool's ongoing probs everything else has been put on the back burner for now....yes even my V8 and it's need to have the timing chest machined out.
Not going to be on here as regularly as normal for the next few days, but I'll get back to you as and when I can.
