Chevy trike

Post by King Herald »

Here's my little bolide. I started out with a 350 Chevy I bought several years ago and it just went from there. Not a sensible project, but more of a bucket list thing, I've always wanted a V8 trike.

A narrowed Jag back axle was obtained, and a bunch of steel tube, and fun was had. It's still far from finished, but hope to get it through MSVA in the next year.

The front springs are off my old BMW bike shocks, after I replace them. They seem to be about the right stiffness. I made up the various bushings etc in my ancient little lathe.

Very nice.

I would love to shortern my axle, but mine has the full cage and it just seems like a lot of work.

Mine was shortened before I got it, looks like they made a professional job too.

Mudguards sourced and mounted. Alternator mounted with MSVA complaint pedestrian guard.....

Question. Is there any particular side the handbrake lever has to be mounted, any rule, regulation or sensible reason? I started making a bracket to fit it to the right side, but then thought I'd ask before welding.

Fits the space on the frame perfectly, with an inch clearance to get me thumb on the knob.

The 3 spare holes are speed holes, I'll probably enlarge them a bit before welding, make it go faster.

I'm not a massive fan of checker plate, in the foot boards, but the front silencers are right underneath so it needs something to keep the heat at bay, and I may put ribbed rubber over the top later.

Two 12" cooling fans mounted out back, to suck air through the radiator. I was trying to work out how to cover them up so they don't really show, but I'll just leave them as they are. There's going to be a tubular 'nerf bar' cross the rear with lights and reg plate, that'll hide and protect them a bit.

I've started a dummy fuel tank, to cover the distributor and carb etc. I don't really want it, but I'm sure MSVA would have a cow with the number of sharp edges and corners in front of me, seeing as they crack the shits over a filler cap more than 15mm high.

I hammer formed the edges round a plywood former, to get a safe radius on the edge, then I carefuly blobbed and bodged it together with a Tig welder that I can't really use properly.....
