Frightening

Post by Haggis »

I got a call from a mate the other day. Can he bring his trike down for me to look at. He says . Needs fork seals and possible head stock bearings.

I got it in the other day and on Wednesday I started the work.
I have a small lecky fork truck that I use as a trike lift..
Got everything ready and picked the trike up ready for work. I lifted it 4 inches before the front wheel came off the floor. summat not right.

Hmm the bearings must be well shot thinks I

Undid the wheel spindle to take the wheel out and the forks sprung apart be 20mm. Spader missing and the wheel spindle tightened up was pulling the forks together. Starting to get the feeling things are not going to go to plan.

Left fork slider kaput with lots of play. No point changing the seals as they just gonna go again.

Dropped the forks out and then the yokes.
Feckin hell. There are some bloody cowboys out there but this takes the biscuit.

Bearing too small so someone has shimmed it out with a hose clip of all things

Got my work cut out here then.

On closer inspection I found the reason why the bearing had been shimmed out.

He's lucky to have you Haggis.

Have you ever thought of immigrating down sarf, it's lovely, warm and the streets are paved with gold. I could also keep you occupied in retirement with trikes
